Sisters of St. Aloysius – Karuna Jothy Convent, Ranchi

In May 2004 we started our small community in Ranchi in the capital of Jharkhand state, in the Archdiocese of Ranchi, at the invitation of the Arch Bishop of Ranchi Rt.Rev. Telespore Toppo .  The first community members were Sr Jainamma, Sr. Maymol, Sr. Prasanna and  sr per peptua they were rendering their service in the capuchin school and Birla Hospital. In the beginning we were staying in the Hospital quarters. Our salary was poor and we had no means of transportation. So we had a hard time. Once in a week a priest from Capuchin Ashram used to come for Holy Mass and on Sundays we used to go to the parish church. Here we started to look for land and  we purchased around three acres of land at Angada around 20 kilometers east of Ranchi.Sisters were living in a rented house at Aragate for almost five years.

Our convent was constructed and the inauguration was done on on 18 July 2009 by Auxiliary Bishop of Ranchi Rt Rev. Binay Kandulna.  Sr.Mercy Abraham the Regional superior was present along with other sisters.

Angada  is a tribal area with no facilities for educating the children so we started a school with 8 children in 2010 and it has grown to 450 students and reached up to class 7th class. The school building was inaugurated on 5’th May 2012 by the parish Priest Rev Fr. George Minz Vocation promotion is one of the major purpose of starting this community.
