Sisters of St. Aloysius – St. Aloysius Balika Bhavan - KARIKOTTAKARY
The community was started at the invitation of Rev,Fr,Mani Kandithil, a retired priest in the Arch Diocese of Tellicherry , Who was also from the same parish of Karikkottkari. He obtained the necessary permission from the Arch Bishop as well as from the parish priest. Since a good number of our sisters belong to this Archdiocese , we felt it opportune to accept this invitation.
Thus we initiated the community on 7th July 2008. The first community members were Sr.Leelamma, Sr.Lissamma joseph and Sr.Renuka Lunken. Our sisters made a survey of the locality to find out the needs of the people of this locality. They found many poor girls who were
semi orphan and poor, who needed our care and support. Thus we decided to start a home for the poor Girls. The Parish priest and the Parishioners were very helpful in finding out a suitable place for starting our new mission.
Mr.Thomas Vazhakkala came forward to donate 50 cents of land for the construction of the convent .Along with this land we purchased one more acre of land and registered in the name of the congregation. A small convent was built and the sisters shifted their residence from the rented house. This new convent was blessed on 15th October 2009 by the Vicar General of the Archdiocese Rev. Fr. Mathew Chalil. In june 2010 the first batch of poor daughters were admitted.
This girls were sent to the nearby parish school for their education. The sisters were taking care of all their needs.
In 2011 as the number girls were increasing, the place was not sufficient for all of them. So with the help of the Benefactors from Italy Mr.Marcello and Mrs.Silvia the extension of the building was done along with a Chapel. This building was blessed by the Arch Bishop , His Grace George Valiyamattam on 6th may 2013.On this occasion some priests , religious, parishioners and a good number of Luigine sisters were Present. The sisters are fully involved in all the parish activities,.At present we have 25 girls in the Balika Bhavan.
