SANTACRUZ COMMUNITY
A seed that was sown in faith by Fr. Battista Rubino in Italy in the year 1815 has now taken root and blossomed into a well grown tree with its branches outstretching far and wide, reaching the Indian sub-continent. Here in India, Santacruz is the second community opened in 1974 with two sisters namely Sr. Lucy and Sr. Flaviana. Beginning it was a tough task because of language, new place and people above all financial problem. They struggled a lot to meet the daily needs. But they took it as a challenge to fulfill the vision of our Founder.
Sisters worked for the less privileged and sick. They visited the slum dwellers and extended their help and support. Sisters lived with a minimum income. The zeal to carry out the mission was fabulous.
A hostel was opened for the young girls which was the vision of our founder. “Prepare girls for life and family”. We not only take care of them but also listen to their problems and anxieties. Hostel for young girls is very relevant in Mumbai because many young girls come from far and wide looking for job . Besides this, we are also involved in the pastoral activities and healing ministry. Sr. Elisa worked in the Parish Office for eighteen years and it is continued by our other sisters.
